William Harcum Obituary
"A Time To Be Born"
On November 11, 1940, God gifted us with William Francis Harcum, Sr. Raised in the Baltimore Community of Sandtown, he was the only child. His grandmother Florinda Harcum raised him after his mother, Blanche Harcum passed in the same year he was born.
" A Time To Learn"
He attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School for his primary education. He later attended and graduated from Carver High School.
"A Time To Work"
In April of 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Military Police and was stationed in various locations in the U.S. and Overseas. Dahn, Germany was one
of those places. William was honorably discharged on March 26, 1976. He also worked for Ficks Brother's Roofing Company in Baltimore City for over 12 years and was able to receive retirement from that company. He was also recognized for his hard work at Delaware Downtown Vision (Delaware Safety Team Patrol) as "Employee of the Quarter" only after 3-4 months of work. In 2000, he was given a certificate of "Appreciation for Hard Work" at the church where he was employed. One thing that we can say about Pops is that he was definitely a HARD WORKER AND DETERMINED TO GET THE JOB DONE.
"A Time To Love"
William F. Harcum, Sr. had a deep love for his family, a love that began when he married Mary Louise and lasted for over 20 years. From this union seven children were born. William Jr, Rodney, Veronica, Blanche, Quintin, Rosalind, and Melinda. We had a tradition of going roller skating as a family every weekend, which we all enjoyed. William was affectionately known by various names such as "Pops", "Daddy", "Francis", "Frannie", "Bill", and "Granddad". His favorite foods included pork chops, fish, rice & gravy, and mashed potatoes, and his preferred dessert was apple pie. He enjoyed watching Westerns, NCIS and Hawaii 5-O, and was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. He had a great appreciation for 70's soul music and loved to dance at family functions and cookouts.
"A Time To Die"
In early May 2019, Rosalind, the third daughter, and George Jr. made the loving decision to bring Dad into their home to provide him with the care he needed after a previous stroke he had while living in Delaware. Dad had been an active member of the Church of The Ascension before his health started to decline. He would occasionally attend St. Paul Church of God in Christ with Rosalind and George. Both Rosalind and George dedicated themselves tirelessly to ensuring that William was comfortable and well-cared for at home.
On January 13, 2024, William departed unexpectedly, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. He is survived by his son, William F. Harcum, Jr.(Yvette), as well as his four daughters. Veronica (Michael Sr.), Blanche (Leon Jr.), Rosalind (George, Jr.), and Melinda (Steven). He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom hold a special place in their hearts for him.
Sadly, William was preceded in death by two sons, Rodney and Quintin, as well as his grandson Joel. He was also preceded in death by his wife Liz and his father, Joseph Webster. William's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the time they spent with him.
