William David Hudson, Jr., a cherished husband, devoted father, and loving grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Richmond County, North Carolina, on February 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 24, 1953, in Richmond County, William led a life that was defined by kindness, humor, and a deep love for those around him.

Throughout his career, William devoted himself to hard work, serving the community through various roles. He worked for the NC Department of Transportation and drove an oil truck for Covington Oil Company in Ellerbe, always showing up with a smile and a reassuring word for everyone he encountered. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his role as a family man.

William’s military service in the US Army marked another significant chapter in his life. He was deployed to Vietnam and Indochina, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. His experiences in the military shaped him into a strong and resilient figure, etched in the memories of those who loved him.

A proud member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, William carried his faith and values into every aspect of his life. He was known for his fun-loving personality and was a kind-hearted soul who had a remarkable ability to spread joy. The memories shared with him are treasured by his family, who will forever hold dear the countless moments spent in laughter and conversation.

William's legacy lives on through his beloved wife of 50 years, Pamela Mabe Hudson, and his children: Sunny Trinh, Sue Mauk, David Hudson (Chrissy), and Margaret Radford (Matt). He was a proud grandfather to Jonathan Taylor, Robert Mauk, Amy Quick (John), Mikhaila Hudson, Dalton Radford (Kirsten), Skylar Hudson, and Breanna Radford, and a happy great-grandfather to Eli Alexson and Skarlette Faye. He is also survived by his brothers, John Ray Hudson, Clifford Hudson, and Larry Wayne Hudson.

William was preceded in death by his parents, William David Hudson and Helen Thompson Hudson, who surely welcomed him with open arms. His greatest accomplishment was the family he built and nurtured throughout his life, a testament to his love and strength.

In this difficult time, his family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to his special caregiver, Tammy Smith, and Gentiva Hospice, whose support made their journey easier during his final days.

As loved ones gather to honor his memory, they will reflect on all the beautiful moments they spent together and the legacy of love and compassion he leaves behind. The visitation will take place on February 14, 2025, from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe, NC, commencing at 2:00 PM with Pastor George Wilson and Pastor Todd Carpenter officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Sandy Ridge Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

As we remember William David Hudson, Jr., let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the lessons he imparted. His spirit will forever be a part of our hearts, guiding us with love and laughter as we carry his memory forward.
