William (Bill) Hughes Jr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 22, 2024. He was born on December 20, 1955, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late William and Corine Hughes.
Bill graduated from Overbrook High School in 1973 and began his career working alongside his brother Alonzo in carpentry and electrical work. He later moved to Dover, DE, where he served as a high-voltage lineman for The City of Dover until his retirement. Recently, Bill was baptized, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
A man of many talents, Bill was an excellent drummer and loved to sing. He was also a phenomenal dancer, always the life of the party at family gatherings and summer fish fries. After retirement, he discovered a passion for wood carving, creating beautiful birds with a great eye for detail. An avid gardener, fisherman, and hunter, Bill found joy in all things outdoors. Above all, he cherished his role as "Pop Pop" and was beloved as everyone's favorite uncle and cousin. He had a gift for conversation, turning strangers into friends wherever he went.
One of Bill's greatest joys was cruising with his partner Lisa, exploring the latest ships and showing his style at formal events. They embarked on many adventures together, and recently, he was invited on stage to sing with the ship's band, becoming an instant celebrity on board. Their goal of achieving Diamond Status was reached this past August, marking another memorable milestone in their travels.
William is preceded in death by his siblings, James Bullock and Patricia Lamison. NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN. He leaves behind a loving legacy, including his life partner Lisa Harmon; his children LaKeisha Stokes (VA), Derrick Harmon (IL), and Deion Harmon (DE); seven grandchildren: Terrell, Taivon, LaShay, Kingston, Jakobi, Evelyn, and Josephine; his siblings Deacon Cora Fogg (South Hill, VA), Ernestine Bullock (Bronx, NY), Haywood Bullock/ Pernola, (Long Island, NY), Alonzo Hughes/ Lorretta (Philadelphia, PA), and Dr. Gail Brodgon (Newark, DE); one aunt, Bertha White (Boydton, VA); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bill will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
