In Loving Memory of Sommer Hope Curtis
March 24, 1984 – September 29, 2025
Sommer Hope Curtis, a radiant soul with an unbreakable spirit, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 29, 2025. She was 41 years old.
Sommer is survived by a devoted and loving family and team who cherished every moment shared with her: her mother Lynn Schmidt, who stood by her side through every chapter of life; her stepfather Tom Furr; her favorite as...baby brother Spensor Ross, his wife Brianna Lopez Ross, and their daughter Michaela Ross; her sister, Nichole Sullivan and her beloved children Adria, Braelyn, and Vanessa Sullivan; her sister Amanda Lee and her son, Rooke Worcester-Lee; her sister Amanda Wittmeyer, her husband Mike Wittmeyer, and their sons Colin McLaughlin, Declan McLaughlin, and Gabe Wittmeyer; Bayada, CSI, and DDDS family.
Sommer's life changed forever in 1998 when she suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident. Though that moment froze her mind in time at 14 years old, it never dimmed her light. In fact, her heart, strength, and humor only grew larger. Sommer lived her life with resilience, humor, and a fierce kind of love that made her the true backbone of her family. She was a fighter in every sense, always defying expectations and refusing to let her spirit be limited by circumstance. Her resilience and ability to bring comfort and joy will remain unmatched.
To know Sommer was to know loyalty. Even as a young girl, she stood up for the underdog and never tolerated bullying. She had a protective heart and a quick wit, and she never hesitated to speak her mind - especially if someone was being unfair or unkind.
Her loves were simple and sincere: Adam Sandler movies that could make her laugh no matter how many times she'd seen them, singing along (loudly and proudly) to her favorite songs, late-night episodes of The Golden Girls, and - famously - always wanting a cigarette. Her humor and candid nature made her unforgettable.
She loved pigs - adored them, really - and lime green was her signature color. Whether it was a bright hoodie, a blanket, or her favorite accessories, or her bedroom walls, lime green was her way of making the world a little bolder, a little louder, and a lot more her.
Sommer had a gift for making people laugh - often at exactly the wrong moment. She could make a whole room lose it with one unexpected comment, and her wit and honesty were refreshing, raw, and absolutely unforgettable.
Sommer taught everyone around her how to live with courage, joy, and authenticity. She reminded her family daily that strength doesn't always look like perfection - sometimes, it looks like a woman laughing, loving, and singing her heart out, no matter the challenges in front of her.
She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Her spirit lives on in every inside joke, every family gathering, every Adam Sandler movie night, and every song sung a little too loud.
A private celebration of Sommer's life will be held with her close family and friends.
Rest easy, sweet Sommer. The world was better with you in it. Thank you for showing us what it truly means to fight, to love, and to never stop being yourself.
