William Jenkins Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 18, 2025.
William Edward Jenkins, of Houston and Johnson City, Texas, passed away on November 15, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, to Vera (Roberts) Jenkins and William Jenkins.
Will spent his early years in California before moving with his family to Tombstone, Arizona, where he graduated high school in 1967. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Northern Arizona University and later received his Master of Science in Finance from the University of Arizona.
In 1968, Will married Catherine Devere, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted more than five decades. After completing his graduate studies, he worked briefly in the mining industry before beginning a distinguished 34-year career with ExxonMobil.
Following his retirement, Will continued a life of service, leadership, and stewardship. He served as Chair of the Coast Guard Foundation, as a board member of the American Bureau of Shipping, and as an overseer for the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He also served on the board of Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve, supporting its mission of land conservation, habitat restoration, and education. His commitment to public service, maritime excellence, and environmental preservation reflected the values he carried throughout his life.
More than any professional accomplishment, Will cherished his family and friends above all else. He took immense pride in each of their achievements and found his greatest joy in time spent with those he loved. Family gatherings, holidays, and simple moments together were the memories he held closest to his heart.
Will is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; his daughter, Laura Gann (Clay); his son, Richard Jenkins (Holly); and his sister, Rosa Perotti. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Thomas Gann, Andrew Jenkins, Jonathan Gann, Patrick Jenkins, Brian Gann, Jane Gann, Nathan Jenkins, and Ryan Jenkins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he cared for deeply and followed with great pride throughout their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Coast Guard Foundation, Turning Point USA, or Selah Bamberger Ranch Preserve. These causes were meaningful to Will and his family.
Will will be remembered for his integrity, leadership, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy of love, service, and strength will continue to live on in all who knew him.

Paul Caruselle and I send our condolences to Cathy and family. Will has been a very positive influence on so many people. We are grateful for his leadership and example. From the offshore oil fields in the North Sea to raising longhorns on his Texas ranch, to his effective leadership in supporting the women and men of our United States Coast Guard as Chairman of the Coast Guard Foundation, Will was the master of many adventures, together with Cathy. We are so very grateful for his leadership, generosity and, above all, his friendship. God bless you, Will Jenkins!
