Bill grew up in Grosse Pointe and Livonia Michigan. He attended Cornell University and later received three degrees from the University of Michigan: Engineering, JD and MBA. He was a proud and ardent supporter of the Maize and Blue. Bill practiced patent law before joining Ford Motor Company where he had a long and very successful career. He started in Dearborn in product development before moving to Ford's Washington D. C. office in 1971 as a company attorney and lobbyist, positions he held continuously for over 30 years.
Bill loved his family, friends, and his country. He enjoyed tennis and played several times a week right up to the onset of his sudden illness about two weeks ago. He also enjoyed sailing, especially with his family Solomons Island Yacht Club friends. The Kings joined SIYC in May 1977. In addition to being socially active members and serving on various committees, Bill was Rear Commodore in 2005, Vice Commodore in 2006 and Commodore in 2007. Additionally, Bill was the Club parliamentarian for quite a few years. He will be remembered as a most valuable Club member and for being a man who was dignified but modest, a person who exuded class without pretense. Bill was a man of honor and great integrity, a noble person and a true gentleman.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62+ years, his two children, and two grandchildren.

Ilze, Betsy, Bill and family. I just learned of Bill's rather unexpected passing. He was a true gentleman, polished professional, exceptional UMichigan alum and supporter, and a dear fellow. I am so sorry that he has moved to the world beyond us but grateful that I got to know him over many years. I will miss seeing him at Michigan functions and admiring his commitment to tennis but also his love for Ilze, Betsy,Bill and family. He was a quality and genuine gentleman. My deepest condolences.
