Mr. William James LaPointe II (Bill) was born on December 15, 1941, and passed away November 15, 2024, at the age of 82 years old. Bill was originally from Harvey, Illinois, and after graduating from the Archdiocese Catholic High School, he served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid water sports person in his early years and was transferred to Gainesville, Georgia by Edward Power Door Company in 1972. Bill was a cherished spouse, parent, and grandparent.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. William James LaPointe I and Mrs. Helene Kladis LaPointe, and his precious son, William James LaPointe III (Billy), who died at the age of seven.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mrs. Jeannie LaPointe, with whom he wrote a beautiful love story. He is survived by his loyal son Mr. Juddson West, his only daughter Dr. Julie LaPointe Pope (Dr. Mark Pope), and his adoring granddaughters Ms. Taylor Pope and Ms. Erin Pope. He is survived by four siblings Mrs. Cathy Philpott/Texas, Mrs. Elaine Watson (Dr. Lee Watson)/California, Dr. Greg LaPointe (Mrs. Donna LaPointe)/ Arizona, Mr. Ted LaPointe (Mrs. Rhonda LaPointe)/ Georgia and five dear sisters-in-law residing in Georgia Ms. Jackie Pirkle, Teresa & Bryan Bordelon, Ms. Sheila McFalls, Ms. Robin Diaz, and Mrs. Kim Lally (Mr. Brent Lally), along with many nieces and nephews.
Bill was an entrepreneur and owned numerous Gainesville businesses. He was a self-taught pioneer of computer technology and could build anything from computers, and game machines to radio-controlled airplanes, boats and residential homes, from the ground up. Bill often noted that people make mistakes because they do not know any better, and he enjoyed lifting people up by sharing his knowledge, skills, and abilities. He was a former Vice President of the Cherokee Gun Club and participated in shooting tournaments through the last year of his life.
At his request, a celebration is planned and will be held at a later date.
