Funeral service for William "Lavon" Lewis, age 87, of Loveland, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 802 Field Street, Grandfield, OK 73546, with Billy Don Whittington officiating.

Mr. Lewis passed away, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at his home.

Burial will be in the Grandfield Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home in Frederick.

He was born on March 13, 1938, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Owen William and Margaret Paulina (Neugebauer) Lewis. The Lewis family were original pioneer settlers that homesteaded in Tillman County prior to statehood. Lavon grew up in and attended Loveland schools. He graduated from Loveland High School with the Class of 1956. He was united in marriage to Carol Louise Wilson on November 11, 1966, in Cache, Oklahoma. Lavon worked with his father raising and stocking fish all along the Red River. He lived in Soper, Oklahoma, and in the fish off-season, drove a propane truck. He also worked at the Campbell's Soup Factory in Paris, Texas. In 1978, he returned to Tillman County and farmed. He was known by his family and friends for being "hard working, hardheaded, and having a heart of gold." He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Grandfield, Oklahoma.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Carol L. Lewis on June 11, 2019; a son: Ernest Kristopher Lewis in January of 2004; a sister: Leah Fern Smith; and a nephew: David Whittington.

He is survived by one son: William Carroll Lewis, of Loveland, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Quentin William Lewis and wife Illiana, of Altus, Oklahoma, Harmony Kriselle Lewis, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Colton Gage Lewis, also of Lawton; three great grandchildren: Elenna Louise Lewis, Owen Cole Lewis, and Liam Lewis; a nephew: Bobby Whittington and wife Zelphia, of Grandfield, Oklahoma; two great nieces: Allie Daniel and husband Colton, of Truscott, Texas, and Devin Skaggs and husband Chris, of Harleton, Texas; and a great nephew Chantry Whittington and wife Tess, of Glenpool, Oklahoma; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the WASP WWII Museum, 210 Avenger Field Road, Sweetwater, TX 79556, or to the Grandfield Senior Citizen's Center, 123 1st Street, Grandfield, OK 73546, in memory of Lavon Lewis.
