William "Bill" McGillin Sr., passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026 at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was 88 years old.

Bill was born on November 8, 1937 to Theresa Lucente and Eugene McGillin. He graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam in 1957. He was employed at the General Electric Company and retired after 35 years of service.

Other than his family Bill's greatest passion was coaching American Legion Baseball in Amsterdam. His coaching career spanned 22 seasons from 1982 - 2003. James T. Bergen Post #39 sponsored the team until 1998 after which the John J. Wyszomirski Post #701 took over the sponsorship.

Bill's teams captured four New York State District 4 American Legion Titles and won the 1989 Connie Mack League State Championship which was played in Syracuse, NY. He was recognized by American Legion Baseball for winning his 500th game on July 24, 2003 at the New York State District 4 Legion Tournament in South Glens Falls, NY, beating Washington County 24-2 and was an inaugural inductee into the Amsterdam Mohawks Hall of Fame along with legendary High School Coach Brian Mee in 2008. More important than the wins and the championships were the relationships established with his players and the families which he always cherished.

Bill is survived by his wife Shirley to whom he was married to for 62 years, his daughter Lisa (Tony) McGillin- Russo, William McGillin Jr., Michael (Sheila) McGillin and Sean (Laurie) McGillin. Five grandchildren, Ryan (Christin) Koubek, Brady, Brendan and Kacie McGillin and three great grandchildren Aviana, Hudson and Grayson Koubek. His sister Kay Lynn Calhoun and his brother Robert McGillin. He is also survived by his extended DePasquale Family. Tessa, Brian, Teddie and Nora DePasquale. He was predeceased by his brother RIchard McGillin, along with his sister Joan and brother-in-law Raymond German.

It was Bills wishes that there be no funeral services, but the family will hold a private service at a later date.
