William Edwin McLaughlin of Campbell, NY, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. Born on July 9, 1936, in Corning, NY, he spent a fulfilling 87 years on this earth, filling it with laughter, kindness, and the warmth of his compassionate spirit.
William was best known for his humble nature and thoughtful demeanor. His loyalty was as steadfast as his love for his family and passion for his work. He was a dedicated machinist at Dresser-Rand before retiring. His love for his work was only surpassed by his love for his family, and he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Despite his calm exterior, William found joy in the excitement of the great outdoors. He was a gentleman farmer who loved playing on his tractor, a testament to his playful spirit. Hunting was another of his cherished hobbies, perfecting his skills as a woodsman and the quiet solitude it provided. His service in the United States Navy was a testament to his dedication to his country, and his membership in the veteran community was a source of great pride.
William is survived by his beloved wife, Anne McLaughlin; children, David McLaughlin, Mary (The late Greg) Button, and Dan (Joy) McLaughlin; cherished grandchildren: Christopher Mclaughlin, Brandon (Shelby) Mclaughlin, Ellen (Kurt) Bates, Ashley Mclaughlin, Daniel McLaughlin, Dustin Button, and Colin Button; great-grandchildren, Heaven Bard and Thomas Bates; sister, Gertrude Rowe; and several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gertrude McLaughlin, and by his sisters, Patricia Rose and Lois Conner.
A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., located at 216 East 1st Street, Corning, New York, 14830. We invite all who knew William to join us in celebrating his wonderfully rich life and the immeasurable impact he had on each of us.
