Obituary of William A. Megill Sr.
William A. Megill, Sr., 75, of Neptune City passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Bill was born at Fitkin Hospital in Neptune and was raised in Farmingdale. He lived in Wall Township before moving to Neptune City in 1973 to start and raise his family. Bill retired from Belmar Paint and Decorating in 2018 after 30 years of dedicated service. He previously worked for Two Guys from Harrison and Chambers Paint in Neptune City. Yet work did not define Bill, it was his love for trains that moved him. From the age of 2, when he got his first Lionel, Bill relished his time with all thing's trains. He was a former member of the Elberon Train Club. Currently, Bill was a member of the Garden State Central Model Railroad Club at the InfoAge Science and History Museums in Wall. He was also a member of The New Jersey Museum of Transportation and an operator of the Pine Creek Railroad at Allaire State Park. At the Pine Creek Railroad, Bill held the position of Conductor, Engineer, and Docent. Yet the position he held the dearest to his heart was playing the role of Santa at Christmas time on the train. Every year on Halloween, Bill would create his village of model trains and invite every trick-or-treater that came to his door in to see it. Family also meant the world to him. Bill was a devoted husband of 53 years and a loving father. Along with his wife, he traveled across the country by car three times because it was always better to see where he was going.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jean (nee Fitzpatrick) Megill; his children, Sherri A. Megill of Brick and William "Bill" Megill, Jr. and his wife, Helen Glazier-Megill of Henderson, NV; three siblings, Thomas R. Megill, Sr. and his wife, Francine of Manahawkin, Dale M. "Dee" Thomas and her husband, Michael of St. Petersburg, FL and Robert S. Megill and his wife, Karen of St. Petersburg, FL; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale. For those who desire memorial contribution may be made to the New Jersey Museum of Transportation, Inc., P.O. Box 622, Farmingdale, NJ 07727-0622 or HERE. For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com.
