Obituary of William J. O'Connor
REXFORD –
William James O'Connor passed away on August 13, 2025 at his home in Rexford.
Born in Queens NY on April 4, 1947, he was the eldest of the seven children of William and Edna (Glasco) O'Connor. Bill was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, class of 1964. He earned his bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure and master's from the University at Albany.
A proud Veteran, prior to graduate school he served as a 2LT in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1969-1971. He retired as the Director of Albany Public Library in 1997.
Bill enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors including hunting, kayaking, camping, and gardening. Indoors he enjoyed reading and cooking.
He is survived by his wife Maureen, his son Nicholas (Danielle) O'Connor of Wilder VT, his stepdaughter Caitlin (Jonathan) Falls of Herndon VA, sisters Patricia Cappello of Verona NJ, Eileen O'Connor of Albany NY, Mary (Paul) Struck of Berlin MD, Kathleen Wagner (David) of Alexandria VA, brother James (Karen) O'Connor of Rockville Center NY and sister-in-law Natalie O'Connor of Averill Park NY and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Latham NY for their compassion and care for Bill.
Bill was an animal lover and supporter of the Animal Protective Foundation of Glenville through his donations and adoptions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation in Bill's memory.
