William Oster Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home - Elsmere on Apr. 17, 2025.
In Loving Memory of William "Bill" Frederick Oster July 13, 1939 – April 15, 2025
William "Bill" Frederick Oster passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the VA Hospice in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 85. Born on July 13, 1939, in Covington, Kentucky, Bill lived a life full of dedication, love, and quiet strength.
A proud graduate of Holmes High School, Bill went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960, stationed in Germany. During his service, he earned recognition for his expert marksmanship in both rifle and carbine, along with the Good Conduct Medal, before being honorably discharged.
Bill was a hardworking and committed professional, spending his career as a skilled meat cutter. He began at A&P Market and later retired from Remke Markets at the remarkable age of 75. His work ethic and warm spirit earned him the respect of coworkers and customers alike.
Bill's true joy came from life's simpler pleasures. He had a passion for fishing and spent many peaceful hours by the water's edge, proudly recalling his 48-pound big mouth catfish catch. He also enjoyed bowling, skeet shooting, and cheering on his beloved Kentucky Wildcats. Family meant the world to Bill, and he especially loved family gatherings and grilling for those he held dear.
On July 28, 1974, Bill married the love of his life, Judy L. Knear-Thompson. They made their home in Erlanger, Kentucky, where they were faithful members of Elsmere Church of Christ. It was at this church that Bill was also baptized in his faith. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 51 years of unwavering love and partnership. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William J. Oster; his mother, Pearl H. Moore; and his sister, Lois Jacobs. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness through his devoted wife, Judy L. Knear-Oster; son, Scott (Michelle) Thompson; and daughter, Kathie (Bill) Bennett. He was a proud grandfather to Dustin Huffman, Jodi Griffin, and Jaclyn Thompson, and a cherished great-grandfather to Quinn Zeeks and Hogan Huffman.
He is also survived by his loving sisters: Charlene (Lynn) Porter and their children Erin, Emily, and Nicholas; Diane (Bill) Sharp and their children Holly and Jason; and the family of his late sister Lois (Robert) Jacobs-Ronnie, Susan, Becky, and David.
A closed-casket service honoring Bill's life and military service will be held at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, Kentucky, on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
Bill will be remembered for his quiet strength, deep love for his family, and the joy he brought to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

I will certainly miss our ongoing friendship of 75 years. We avidly shared
our love of the wild cats. Y earliest memory is of us young boys taking a bus to go fishing.

Judy, I sorry Bill has gone. You two had a good life together and I will miss seeing him and joking with him. I'm sorry I did get to Williamstown to the service. I wanted to be there for you, but it was too much for me to drive down there on my own. I hope we can drive down and visit his grave together soon, if you feel up to it. I know your family is taking good care of you hope to see you soon.
