William Philp III, affectionately known as Bill to his friends and family, left us on the 15th of November, 2025, but his indomitable spirit and infectious laughter have left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. Born on September 2, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan, Bill was a man whose presence could light up the dimmest of rooms.
Bill's life was a tapestry woven with laughter, generosity, and an undeniable charm that drew people to him like moths to a flame. He was the life partner of Gail Stringer, who together navigated the roller coaster of life, embracing each twist and turn with humor and love. They shared a bond that transcended words, built on mutual respect, laughter, and an unspoken understanding that they were each other's rock. Though his brother Jim Philp had previously departed from this world, they were partners in crime and fellow connoisseurs of golf & whiskey. Together, they undoubtedly continue their shenanigans in the great beyond. Bill's memory will be cherished by his stepchildren Ashly Dattilo, Erin (Aaron) Bossenbery, and Shane (Jennifer) Whitehead, his nephews James (Shauna) Philp, Tyler (Jenny) Philp, who will miss his larger-than-life presence and the warmth of his infectious laughter.
The legacy of Uncle Bill will also live on through the dynamic duo of William & Willow Myers. And his grandchildren Tyler (Amanda) Sudorowski, Ayla Sudorowski, the Bossenbery trio - Leelan, Lincoln & Lucy - along with Veda Whitehead, who knew him as GB.
As the owner of Stores N Doors, Bill was more than just a businessman; a mentor to so many who walked through his doors. His work was not just a means to an end but an extension of his generous and friendly nature. He was always ready with a joke, a smile, or a helping hand, and his legacy within the business community is as enduring as the structures he helped build.
An eternal optimist when it came to his Detroit teams, Bill was a die-hard fan of the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings & Michigan football. He wore his fandom like a badge of honor, cheering with the vigor of a man who believed that every season was 'the season.' His passion for his teams was only matched by his love for good bourbon, the thrill of a well-played hand, and the camaraderie of friends and great food.
To say Bill was friendly would be an understatement; he was the epitome of a friend. His magnetic personality drew people in, and his loyalty and kindness kept them close. He was the friend who remembered your favorite drink, your birthday, and the name of your second cousin twice removed. Bill's sense of humor was as legendary as his generosity. He was the kind of guy who could find a joke in any situation, leaving a trail of chuckles and guffaws wherever he went.
His was a life well-lived, full of laughter and friendship, generosity and love. Bill's story doesn't end here; it lives on in the hearts of those he touched, the lives he brightened. So here's to Bill, a man who played the game of life with the heart of a Lion and the spirit of a Wolverine. Keep cheering for us, Bill, from the best seat in the BIG house.
