William R. Proud, "Bill" age 73, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at his home.
He was a devoted husband and a man who loved his family.
He is survived by his wife Brenda L. Proud of Smyrna, his sons Nicholas W. Proud of Gettysburg, PA and Robert W. Proud of Dover, DE, foster daughter Brittany Putnam of NC, grandsons Nash Proud of Gettysburg, Clayton Proud of Middletown, DE, and Josh Lighthall of Dover, DE, and his sisters Linda, Shirley, June and Robin.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Robin Dale Proud of Smyrna and both parents May & Robert Proud, and his sister Barbara of Smyrna.
Bill enjoyed working on the farm along with his father. He worked for the Town of Smyrna for the Water Department, where he retired after 21 years of service. While there, Bill loved serving the citizens of Smyrna; he enjoyed meeting and loved talking to everyone as they did him. He was a well known man because of that.
He enjoyed being around his grandsons and teaching them all the things he learned in life. There wasn't too much that he didn't know.
Bill loved spending time on his front porch with his fur baby girls Hope and Grace, watching squirrels and birds where he got the chance to talk to everyone who was walking by.
One of his enjoyments was passing time by watching the water and boats come in at Woodland Beach, he said it brought him peace.
You will be miss by your wife of 41 yrs and sons and grandsons everyday..
Until we meet again...
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 6 to 7 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 7 PM. Burial will be privately held.
