William Roger Pummell, 94, passed away peacefully at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Hampstead, NC on Thursday, October 23, 2025. He was born in Birmingham, England on July 2nd, 1931. After school, he served in the Royal Air Force from 1949 to 1951. Following that he had a lifelong career in the textile industry and in 1977 he moved with his family to Scituate, Massachusetts to work in East Boston with Commonwealth Home Fashions. Later, he moved to the Plattsburgh, NY area where he lived for about three decades before moving down to North Carolina.
His interests included sailing his boat up in the Lake District in England, woodworking, taking care of his beloved golden retrievers and watching travel shows on TV.
Roger is predeceased by his loving wife of over 60 years, Jean Pummell (Glover) with whom he raised six children. He is also predeceased by his parents, William Pummell and Janet Pummell (née Jackson) and his sister Mary.
Roger is survived by his six children, Sue Roberts (husband Nigel), Judy Blackwell, Wendy Calnan (husband Timothy), Mike Pummell, Richard Pummell (husband Paul) and David Pummell (wife Jayne); nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be taking place at a later date.
