William Rathburn, Jr. Obituary
William T. Rathburn, Jr., affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the age of 67. Born in Natchitoches, Louisiana, Bill was a devoted outdoorsman who found great joy in deer hunting and fishing, with many memorable catches over the years. One of his greatest pleasures was sharing his love of the outdoors with his stepson and grandchildren, passing on the knowledge and experiences he gained growing up on Cane River. These moments brought him immense pride and happiness.
Bill treasured time spent with his family, especially celebrating the New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl victory together. Known for his playful sense of humor and giving everyone a nickname, Bill's warmth and spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Bill dedicated over 30 years to Northwestern State University, serving as a skilled HVAC mechanic. His remarkable memory for faces and names meant that if he saw you outside of work, he was sure to stop and say hello.
A service to honor Bill's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home, with Pastor Matthew Pagels officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Janiece Roge' Ainsworth, and one grandchild, Hunter French.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Rathburn; brother, John Rathburn and wife Dianne; daughter, Lindsey French and husband Ricky; stepson, Thomas Freeman (Gwen Reese); niece, Stacy Brimer and husband Jeremy; and grandchildren Kelsie French, Trey French, Christian French, Aidan Freeman, Jett Freeman, and Ava Freeman.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are David Sims, Brett Heil, Ambrose Airhart, Aidan Freeman, Jett Freeman, and Jeremy Brimer. Honorary pallbearers include Calvin Holmes, Lyle Miller, Mickey Rage', and David Patterson.
Bill's impact on our lives is everlasting, and his memory will continue to bring joy and inspiration to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to The Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
