William Reed Obituary

William (Bill) Richard Reed, III of League City, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend. He left this world on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 in League City, Texas at the age of 94. He was born on September 14, 1930 in Bay City, Texas to William Richard Reed, Jr. and Annie Alice Reed.

He enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean War and served as a gunner on the B36 bomber. Bill met his wife of 66 years, Barbara Ann Ludwig, on vacation on the beaches of Matagorda and were married on August 10, 1957. After starting his family in Newgulf, Bill moved them to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. Upon graduation, he started a long career at NASA and settled his family in League City. His work, as an electrical engineer at NASA, was state-of-the-art in communication, video, and computer systems. As a result of his research, he was published in a paper about early fiber optic communications. His work supported the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and Shuttle programs. Upon retiring in 1990, he and Barbara began RV'ing to see "the good 'ole USA". As a devout member of Sagemont Church, he developed many lifelong friendships and strengthened his love for Jesus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann, grandchildren Joseph and Candace Burt.

William is survived by his daughters Brenda Mayfield and husband Bob, Debra Burt and husband Craig, son Russell Reed and wife Shannon. Grandchildren Jason Mayfield and wife Laura, Teri Finklea and husband Robby, Kelsey Solomon and husband Carl, Alexis Varela and husband Vincent, Kristina Edwards and husband Ernest, Robert J. Binger, Jr. Great-grandchildren Ashby Mayfield, Tobey Mayfield, Annabelle Finklea, Wyatt Finklea, Maxine Solomon, Layton Reed, Arie Varela, Hailey Crainer, Samanatha Yousif, Ian Palmer, Kayla Palmer, Alyssa Palmer, Jessica Edwards. Great-great grandchildren William Yousif, Adalyn Cuevas and many other loving family and friends.

The Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 9:00am with a Ceremony at 10:00am at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8601 Almeda Genoa Rd, Houston, TX 77075.
