William Jay Sealey
Norfolk – Jay Sealey, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Jay Sealey, mother, Barbara Edwards Hamblin, and his sister Amanda Jean Sealey.
Left to cherish his memory are sisters, Ginny Sealey Bobby (Chris) and daughter Lilly, Surry Sealey Bosio and her children, Anthony, Bridget and Carolina; his significant other, Jill Adams, and a host of teammates and friends.
Born in Norfolk, VA, Jay graduated from Maury High School where he excelled in football and wrestling. He went on to play football at Concord College in Athens, WV and obtained a bachelor's degree in library science.
Jay retired from highway construction where he was an inspector and was most proud of the work he did on the Martin Luther King Expressway. Previously, he served as head football coach for the Junior Varsity team at Norfolk Catholic High School and was the door security for the 4400 Campus Club.
An avid golfer, Jay was a founding member of The Sazio Scholarship Foundation, which hosted an annual golf tournament honoring Coach Jerry Sazio, to endow college scholarships for eligible Maury High School football players
He will be remembered for his quick wit, charm, and for being a great left tackle for his football teammates.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Sat., Oct 26th in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Ave. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: Concord University Foundation, PO Box 1405, Athens, WV 24712, memo line to read "Jay Sealey", or The Sazio Scholarship Foundation, c/o Roger Carr, Treasurer, PO Box 2563 Blowing Rock, NC 28605.
