William Thomas Shank

William Thomas Shank, of Brighton, passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2025 surrounded by his beloved family. He was 77 years old.
Born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, William was one of four children to Robert and Josephine Shank. William attended Sacred Heart High School, where he excelled academically. He continued his education at Michigan State University and later at Wayne State University, pursuing studies that reflected his dedication to personal growth and professional excellence.
He built a distinguished career with Metropolitan Life Insurance in Detroit, where he worked for more than 25 years. Through hard work, integrity, and leadership, William rose to the position of Assistant Vice President. He was widely respected by colleagues for his steady guidance, thoughtful decision-making, and genuine care for those he worked with.
Outside of his professional life, William embraced the outdoors with enthusiasm. He was an avid golfer, enjoying both the sport and the camaraderie it brought. He also loved off-roading on the sand dunes-an adventurous hobby that captured his spirit of fun, freedom, and exploration.
Son of the late Robert and Josephine Shank, William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Shank; children, Robert (Shelika) Shank, James (Sarah) Shank; grandchildren, Laila, Izzy, and Ryder Shank; siblings, Steven (Barb) Shank, and Nora (Tom) Crieghton; brother-in-law, Larry Lowney; sisters-in-law, Barb (Tom) Miller, and Patricia (Charley) Poellet; nephews, Matthew (Sheri Willer) and Chad Lowney; great nephew, Houston; also many extended family and dear friends.
William is preceded in death by his son, Michael Shank; brother, Michael Shank.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
