William "Bill" Everett Sharp Jr. passed away peacefully in his home in Norfolk, Virginia, on December 8, 2024, at the age of 71, after a courageous battle with clear cell renal cancer. Bill was a devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth, humor, and wisdom touched countless lives.
Born on June 24, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, Bill was the son of the late William E. Sharp Sr. and Judy Coker Sharp. He grew up in Virginia Beach, where he graduated from First Colonial High School in 1971. In 1973, Bill joined the Army as an intelligence analyst, which ignited his passion for learning. He earned a bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University, majoring in Russian and minoring in Political Statistics, and later graduated with a Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law in 1983.
Over the next five decades, Bill built a remarkable career in the Washington, D.C., area, contributing to impactful projects, including the construction of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. He served as Chief Contracting Officer at the Office of Contracting and Procurement and shared his expertise as an adjunct professor at the Center for Excellence in Public Leadership at George Washington University.
Known for his quick wit and boundless kindness, Bill had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He brought laughter, optimism, and encouragement to everyone he encountered. His deep care for family and friends was unwavering, and he found joy in mentoring, supporting, and sharing his love of life with those around him.
Bill was passionate about history, reading, and football. He cherished time spent with his family, especially with his grandsons, whether playing putt-putt, throwing a football, enjoying the beach, or engaging in lively card games.
Bill is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Cecelia Rose "CC" Sharp.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose C. Sharp; his cherished daughter, Lindsay Farley, and her husband, John, of Virginia Beach; treasured grandchildren, Leland and Everett Farley; his niece, Alysha Stone, her husband, Kevin, and their children Caleb, Joshua, and Ashlie Stone of Chesapeake, Virginia; his nephew, Seth Sharp of Virginia Beach; his stepdaughters, Meredith Powers and her husband, Ryan Bateman, of New York, and Melissa McPherson and her husband, Seth, of Portsmouth, Virginia, and their children, Alan and Brooke. Bill also leaves behind countless friends, family members, and colleagues who will forever remember his generous spirit and unforgettable humor.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on January 18, 2025, at the Southside Chapel of Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive,
Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

American Cancer Society or the SPCA, organizations close to Bill's heart.
