William “Bill” Shavers, 85, of Phenix City, AL, went to meet his Master on November 25, 2024. A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Hwy 431 N, Phenix City, AL, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 12:30 pm followed by a funeral service at 1:30 pm. Services will conclude with a committal service at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Bill was born on November 1, 1939, in Phenix City to the late James W. and Edna L. Shavers. Bill attended Ladonia Baptist Church from the time he was 8 years old. After high school he joined the Air Force for 4 years then began working for the Norfolk Southern Railroad until retiring as a Tower Master after 41 years. Bill loved his job and often talked about the railroad. During that time, he met the love of his life, Jo Ann, and married her in September of 1996. Throughout life he enjoyed country music, working in the yard, and playing with his 7-year-old dog, Shiloh. Bill enjoyed attending the Retired Railroad luncheons the first of every month. He was a family man who loved and attended most Auburn football games. He was outgoing with a big heart and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
William “Bill” Shavers is preceded in death by his parents, James William Shavers Sr., and Edna L. Sanders Shavers. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Boss Shavers of Phenix City, AL; daughter, Leslie K. Shavers of Phenix City, AL, and stepdaughters, Jorie Fifield (Kevin) of Columbus, GA, and Michelle Foley of Phenix City, AL; sisters, Carolyn S. Massey of Columbus, GA and Barbara S. Williams of Seale, AL; brother, Ralph L. Shavers (Linda) of Phenix City, AL; and grandchildren, Madelyn Lee Folds of Phenix City, AL, Ian P. Rigby of Denver, CO and Joey Fifield of Atlanta, GA.
