Gladstone, MI
William "Bill" Shine, age 81, of Gladstone, entered into his Heavenly home on Thursday, March 14, 2024, following a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Bill was born October 12, 1942, in Detroit, MI, the son of William and Mary (Stimac) Shine. He was raised in Houghton and was a 1960 graduate of Houghton High School. Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Medical Corpsman until his honorable discharge in 1963.
On May 8, 1965, Bill was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Kilpela and together the couple eventually made their home and raised their family in Gladstone. Bill was an officer with the Michigan State Police from 1964 to 1991. He went on to serve as the Delta County Magistrate until his retirement in 2005.
Bill was a member of First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. He loved the game of baseball and was a Gladstone Baseball Coach and mentor for many years. His hobbies included playing slow-pitch softball, hunting at the Tuskan Camp and cheering for several professional sports teams. Bill could often be found on Wednesday afternoon eating lunch with his life-long buddies at the Family Inn Restaurant in Wells. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his loving wife Kathleen, Bill is survived by:
Daughter: Laurie (Greg) Hallock
Son: William "Butch" (Mari) Shine
Grandchildren: William and Andrew Shine
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary:
Brother: Jim Shine
Sister: Dianne Shine
Funeral services for Bill will be held at the convenience of his family. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.

I met Billy in 1978 when I went to Gladstone Post out of Recruit School. He was my training officer. The friendship with he and Kathy has continued since. Working with Bill was always fun. He approached the job with a smile and a joke. Bill was always up for a practical joke which made a stressful job easy to survive. He will be missed.
