Bill Sistek died on July 21 at Geneva Hospital. Bill was a graduate of Ashtabula City High School. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1957-1965, serving on ships and lighthouses in the Great Lakes, including CGC Mackinaw, and spent time on isolated duty on Kure Atoll, Hawaii. He met Lynn (Harju) while on leave and they married in 1964. He retired from the Cleveland Illuminating Company in 1992 to pursue his dream of finding the perfect nap. Lord William (titled by his grandson) was a devoted husband, loving dad, amazing Papa, trusted friend, and beloved servant to his many pets and local wildlife. In 2014, he participated in the Great Fudge Wars on Mackinaw Island and was renowned for his storytelling. He had an endless reservoir of humor and could make you laugh with just a look. He was quick witted and a gifted artist.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Robert. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynn; daughters, Tina (Chris) Green, Meri Sistek, and Suzy Sistek; grandchildren, Ben (Alyssa) Green, Hannah Green, Abby Green (Cole Hejduk); sister, Betty; and beloved dog, Mocha.
A simple prayer service followed by a Celebration of Life brunch will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 10am at Fairport Harbor Congregational Church, Fairport Harbor, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to a local no kill animal shelter or animal rescue or a wildlife organization.
