William J. Standring, 80, a lifelong resident of
Auburn, MA, died Sunday, November 12, 2023 after a brief illness at St. Vincent Hospital, with his family and friends by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra, and his son, Stephen, as well as two adored granddaughters, Liberty Kibbitt and Alexis Standring, all of Auburn.
William is also survived by six brothers, Thomas Standring, of
Worcester, MA, David Standring, of
West Yarmouth, MA, Alan Standring, of
Charlton, MA, Terrance Standring, of
Phoenix, AZ, Neil Standring, of
Spencer, MA, Glenn Standring, of
Charlton, MA, and a sister, Faith Fritze, of
Altamonte Springs, FL, and an uncountable number of nieces, nephews, and excellent friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Imelda Standring, and three brothers, Harold Standring Jr., Ronald Standring, and Paul Standring.
William was born in, and was a lifelong resident of
Auburn, MA. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1962, and worked for the town, serving roles in both the Highway and Parks Departments. He also worked on his wife's family farm, Adamski's Auburn Vegetable Farm on Barnes Street until it's closure in the late 1980's. William was also a huge fan of flea markets and he and his wife made some great friends and were weekly vendors in Lancaster and Grafton throughout the past 20 or so years. He was a longtime member of the Auburn Knights of Columbus and a big fan of the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox and Miami Hurricanes.
During summers, William thoroughly enjoyed gardening, fishing and birding. His backyard always contained a large vegetable garden that was scattered with various bird / bat houses and feeders attracting Bluebirds, Hummingbirds and Orioles. William enjoyed taking summer trips to the
Lancaster, PA area visiting his Amish friends, as well as visiting family and friends down the Cape. During winters, he would vacation to many different areas of Florida throughout the years. In his later years, he particularly enjoyed driving his granddaughters and their many friends to and from their various after-school activities, and was affectionately known as "Grampa Bill" to many kids in town beyond just his granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to either the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Massachusetts Audubon Society (https://www.massaudubon.org/donate) or to ALS ONE (https://alsone.org/donate) in support of a cure.
Friends and Relatives are invited to visit William's family on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 4 - 7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street,
Auburn, MA. Services and burial will be held privately for the family.
