William Stemple Obituary

William Everett Stemple (1927 - 2025) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on May 29, 2025. Bill and his five siblings were the children of Ramon and Lula Stemple of Philippi, WVA. Bill and his wife of 75 years, Genevieve (Jean), left Philippi and settled in Alexandria, VA where they became the earliest and longest residents of Rose Hill.

Bill lived a life of service to his country and his community. After serving in the U.S. Army Reserve, he was on active duty from September 1944 to May 1966. He was a civil servant in the Department of Defense and consultant with TRW until his retirement in April 1990. Bill was an enthusiastic volunteer for the next 20 years as a trainer with the Red Cross, a starter for the women's league at Greendale Golf Course, and an auxiliary volunteer at Mt. Vernon Hospital.

When asked how he was feeling, Bill's reply would be "Faaaantastic." He credited his longevity of 98 years to a lifetime of learning, a genuine interest in others, and a glass of red wine with dinner.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Jean and son-in-law Ted Blofeld in 2022. His survivors are Donna Stemple of Woodbridge, VA; Ronald Stemple and wife Susan McInerney of New York, NY; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Franconia United Methodist Church, 6037 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA 22306 on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to The Salvation Army, 110 East Main Street, Kingwood, WVA 26527.
