William “Wellit” Stephens, age 86, of Trenton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026.
Born on May 7, 1939, to the late Roy and Opal Fay Stephens, William was the oldest of twelve children and was lovingly known by his family as “Wellit.” From the very beginning, his life was a gift. He was born bound for heaven and lived an innocent life, untouched by the worries of the world.
William was a sweet and humble man with a joyful, childlike spirit that made him a true delight to be around. His gentle presence brought comfort, laughter, and warmth to everyone who knew him. He had a way of brightening the room simply by being in it.
He enjoyed listening to the radio, especially country and gospel music, and relaxing in front of the television. A devoted sports fan, William proudly cheered on the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also had quite the sweet tooth, and if Little Debbies were nearby, chances are they didn’t last long.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his siblings, Arthell Carrell, Wanda Rinehart, Sonny Stephens, Iris Sue Cloud, Claude “C.W.” Stephens, and Joy McClain.
He is survived by his sisters, Jessie Whitley, Elizabeth "Kit" Heaton, and Gail Goins; his brothers, Timmy Stephens and David Stephens; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate William's life will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Larry Moore Memorial Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Gabriel Nix officiating. William will be laid to rest at Stephens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
He now rests in the arms of his Savior, just as heaven had been waiting for him all along.
