William David “Bill” Swegheimer, 79, of Dover, passed away peacefully in New Dawn Retirement Community on November 12, 2023.
Born in Dover on June 15, 1944, he was the son of the late Albert Eugene and Caroline Elizabeth (Rentsch) Swegheimer.
After completing his formal education at Dover High School, Bill honorably served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Eugene A. Greene.
On September 25, 1965, he married the former Barbara J. Espenschied in the Dover Baptist Church. Together, they enjoyed Harley motorcycle riding and spending time with their family and friends. Bill loved to host parties and cut firewood on “Mr. Bill’s Hill”. Many treasured memories were made on the hill.
Professionally, Bill was employed with Greer Steel throughout his career.
Bill leaves behind his wife, Barb, of Dover; his sons, James Swegheimer of Florida and Paul Swegheimer of Dundee; grandchildren, Bruen and Sadie Swegheimer, and James McCartney; great-grandchildren, Eli and Koa McCartney; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed Espenschied and Doris Hardy.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in passing by his parents-in-law, Earl and Ethel Espenschied; and his brothers, Dan and Fred Swegheimer.
Memorial visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave. Dover, on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from Noon to 2 p.m. Pastor Brian Flood will officiate a service beginning at 2 p.m. with inurnment following in Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors.
Memorial contributions in Bill’s memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at Stjude.org.
