William James Thompson

William James Thompson, age 26, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on July 18, 2025. Will was born to his loving parents, Tricia Day Thompson and Jim Thompson and sister Victoria, on March 19, 1999, in Oklahoma City. His passing leaves an immense hole in the hearts of all who loved him, but his light, humor, and brilliance will never be forgotten.

Will began his education at Christ the King Catholic Elementary School and went on to Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School, graduating in 2018. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma obtaining a degree in Management Information Systems and was working toward a master’s degree in computer engineering. While at OU, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

From a young age, Will was full of imagination. In third grade, instead of paying attention in class, he read Harry Potter cover-to-cover in the back of the room—beginning a lifelong love of reading books and immersing himself in their stories.

Will had an incredible mind that was full of curiosity, and this became apparent from a young age. He was fascinated by how things worked and could take something apart and put it back together without instructions. At 12, he built a computer from scratch—and no one quite knew where that talent came from. Meeting Brennan and Jake not only gave him companionship but also challenged him academically. That was when he began to realize just how smart he truly was.

Will also had a deep love for sports—remarkably fast on his feet from the start, though no one, especially his father, could ever figure out where that talent came from. Growing up, he played flag football and quickly graduated to tackle. He ran track, played basketball, skied in the Rocky Mountains, and loved going to the beach. Sports weren’t just a pastime—they were pure joy for Will.

One of the family's favorite examples of his passion for sports was playing football with his best friends under the Friday night lights. Brennan was the quarterback, and Will was a receiver. Brennan told him, “Go to the endzone, turn left, and run across. I’m going to stick it.” Will ran the route and caught the touchdown pass. His dad described it as if Will was “walking on air.” It was the kind of joy that made you proud just to watch him.

Will was surrounded, to the end, by incredible friends who brought out his laughter and loyalty. Brennan Mullins, Jake Meysing, Joseph Engel, Bryan Quigley, and Shane Dolan were among his best friends, with Brennan and Jake being like brothers. In college, he met the twins—Drake and Dalton—who became another anchor of friendship in his life. Time with his friends was something Will treasured deeply, and his parents will always cherish the joy those friendships brought him.

Will’s death does not define him. He was intelligent, funny, kind, and deeply loved. He mattered profoundly to those around him, even when he couldn’t always feel it himself. Will is survived by his parents, Jim and Tricia, his sister Victoria Meyer and her husband J. Michael Meyer, his grandparents Jeannie and Harold Thompson, Dwight and Teresa Day, and Barbara Day, along with many friends and extended family who will carry his memory forward with love.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. All who knew and loved Will are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
