William H. (Bill) Torpey, 94, passed away peacefully at home in Austin, TX on November 13, 2025. He was born in Worcester, MA to Richard and Katherine Torpey on August 1, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Nancy Bucchieri of Windsor Locks, CN; brothers Richard of San Diego, CA and James of Sun City Center, FL.

He married Janice Lambert of Worcester, MA on May 19, 1956. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Jan preceded him in death in 2014. They raised four children: Nancy of Austin, William II of Austin, David (wife Peggy) of Keller, and Steven (wife Leanne) of Fulshear, TX. They had four grandchildren: Robyn (husband Michael), Lindsey (husband Adam), Jake (wife Gina), and Bradley (wife Ashley). Additionally, they had six great grandchildren: Jack, Vivienne, Elsa, Parker, Hadley, Kayson, and one on the way.

Bill was the First Sargent of the 727th, one of the Air Force's last large squadrons (800+ men). Bill retired from active duty as SMSgt after 20 years of service in the Air Force at Bergstrom Air Force Base.

Jan and Bill made Austin their home.

After retiring from the Air Force, Bill had a 20-year career at United States Postal Service in Austin, TX. He was well known as the Main Office Window Supervisor where his charismatic personality and leadership were appreciated.

Bill was very active as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He was the Cubmaster of Cub Pack 398 and later the Troop Committee Chair of Troop 10. Bill and his boys hiked the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim. His outstanding contributions earned him the District Award of Merit.

Bill was an active member at St Paul's Catholic Church, Austin, TX. He contributed in several ways: lecturer, usher, and eucharistic minister. He led the Men's Club which took care of the Church grounds every Saturday morning.

In retirement, Bill enjoyed traveling, cruising, caring for his lawn, bowling, walking, and playing corn hole. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

When Jan passed away, he made Solstice Senior Living his home for 10 years. He formed great friendships with all the residents and staff.

He will always be remembered for his kindness and quick humor.
