William (Bill) Turnbull, 84, of rural Sparland passed away on March 16, 2025 at his home.
Bill was born in Peoria, IL, on February 4, 1941, to Eugene and June (Miller) Turnbull. He married his high school sweetheart Pat Holsinger on August 19, 1962, at the Lacon Congregational Church.
He was a fifth-generation farmer in the LaPrairie area his entire life. He was a past president of the LaPrairie Mutual Insurance Co. board, past president and lifetime member of the former Lacon Country Club (now Timber Ridge Golf Club), a multi-term Sparland school board member, and a Master Mason.
Bill loved sports, especially golf, March Madness basketball, and the St Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports locally.
He is survived by his wife Pat; his children Scott (Jody) Turnbull and Sue (Mike) Elsasser, all of rural Sparland; his brother Robert Turnbull of Bloomington; and his grandchildren Josh (Bethann) Turnbull of Wauconda and Cam (Sydney) Turnbull of Princeton. He is also survived by five great-grandsons: Owen, Beau, Tripp, Liam, and Bennett.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins. Burial will be in the LaPrairie Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the LaPrairie Cemetery or Illinois Cancer Care. Arrangements are under the care of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
