William Verlander Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Monti-Rago Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 30, 2026.
Verlander

William Thomas passed away after a brief battle with cancer while surrounded by his loving family on March 29, 2026. He was 49. Beloved son of the late Theodore A Verlander III and Agnes Verlander (Battilana). He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Melissa Verlander, his adoring daughter Faith, his in-laws Patti Bonnano, James and Mary Lavery, his many nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Jarrod, Liliana, Micheal, LJ, Jacob, Trinity, Rylee, Addison, Spencer, Kayson, and Mason, as well and his brothers, Ted (Kristen) and Andrew Verlander, James Lavery (Melinda) and John Leonard, and his cousins.

"Billy" was more than a husband, father, and friend, he was the heart of his family and the steady presence everyone depended on. Billy was everything to everyone. He loved deeply, lived full, and gave endlessly to those he loved.

A man of many hats, Billy could do just about anything. He was the handyman everyone called on because he truly could fix everything. Whether it was a project at home or helping friends and family, he never hesitated to lend his hand or his time.

Billy dedicated his professional life to International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 98 in Philadelphia. A proud electrical union member, he believed in hard work, loyalty, and always standing beside others.

Outside of work, Billy knew how to enjoy life. He loved golf and looked forward to his annual golf trips where laughter, competition, and friendship came together. He was at his happiest however, in the back yard grilling for family and friends, or laying by the pool. He loved hosting company.

Music and memories went hand in hand for Billy as well. He loved concerts and country music, singing along and enjoying every moment. Disney also held a special place for Billy. He never lost his sense of wonder and joy when visiting. Above all, Billy especially loved Star Wars, embracing the adventure and fun it brought to his life.

His kindness, humor, and generosity touched countless lives, and his presence made people feel safe, supported, and loved. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, a loyal union man, and a truly wonderful man whose love will never fade.

Relatives and friends are invited to his VIEWING Friday April 3, 2026 9AM to 11AM at THE MONTI RAGO FUNERAL HOME 2531-35 S. Broad St., Phila, PA 19148., Services to follow at 11AM (at Funeral Home). INT. will be held private.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Local 98 Cares- 830 Welsh Road Unit 11, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006; a nonprofit organization created by Local 98 to help union members and their families through hardships.
