William "Bill" Vernon Yost, III
William "Bill" Vernon Yost, III, age 82, of York, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023. Bill was born on June 6, 1940, in Phoenixville to the late William Vernon Yost, Jr. and Elizabeth (Wagner) Moyer. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hunt.
Bill's survivors include his loving companion of 20 years, Phyllis Rasch; his two daughters: Jen Ackroyd and her husband, Paul, of Mechanicsburg; Julie Dove and her husband, Shawn, of Zachary, LA; his five grandchildren: Colsen, Corinne and Chloe Ackroyd, Emma and Bergen Dove; and his brother, Tom Yost of Pottstown. Other loved ones include Phyllis' two sons: Andy Rasch and his wife, Chris, of York; Jaime Rasch and his wife, Susan, of Linesboro, MD; Phyllis' five grandchildren: Jessica, Alison, David, Amanda, Daniel; and Phyllis' eight great-grandchildren.
Bill graduated from Milton Hershey School in 1959 and from Tri-State University in 1963, with a degree in civil engineering. He served our country in the United States Army. He retired from Gannet Flemming in Camp Hill, after 42 years of service, working as a computer programmer. Upon retiring, Bill and Phyllis moved to Sun City Center, Florida, where they lived for 19 years. Bill was a member of the West Shore Elks Lodge #2257 and the American Legion in Florida. He had a passion for golf, enjoyed playing Bridge both online and in person, shooting pool with his friends twice a week, riding his bike and loved going on cruises with Phyllis. Bill was an avid fan of Penn State football, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Rays. In his free time, he enjoyed researching genealogy, tinkering in his garage, and working on his computer. Bill will be deeply missed.
All are welcome to join Bill's family at his celebration of life open house gathering with food and fellowship on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a time of remembrance at 2:30 p.m., at Buhrig's Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory); with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the "Buhrig" parking signs in all of the parking lots. Cremation was private.
