Dr. William (Bill) Francis Vitulli, born in Brooklyn New York, July 17, 1936 and a resident of Mobile since 1965, died on October 13th, 2024. He is survived by Betty Jean, his wife of 63 years, three children, Dr. Paige Vitulli, Quinn Vitulli and Sherik Vitulli Butler (Joey), five grandchildren: Brooke Baggett Eubanks (Kelly) of Mobile, AL; Jacy Baggett Hedges (Michael) of Nashville, TN: Anna Vitulli of Birmingham, AL.; Josh and Cody Butler of Daphne, AL; his great grandchildren: Evan Eubanks of Mobile AL and Nora Hedges of Nashville, Tennessee, and brother Clark Vitulli (Christy) of Nashville, Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by his parents William Vitulli, Sadie Vitulli, and his brother Kenneth Vitulli.
He received his B.A. in 1961, M.S. in 1963, and Ph.D degree in experimental psychology in 1966 from the University of Miami, Florida. He retired in 2001 as Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of South Alabama, Mobile where he taught for 36 years (1965 - 2001). The courses he taught included experimental analysis of behavior, history and systems of psychology, and psychology of humor. He published over 60 articles in scientific or professional journals. He served as chair of the Personalized Studies Program of the College of Arts and Sciences, 1972 - 2001. He served as President of the Alabama Psychological Association, 1975 and Vice Chair of the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology, 1982. He received the Outstanding Professor Award by the USA Alumni Association in 1994. He served as chair of USA's chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, 1987-1998. He continued to serve after retirement on the editorial board of the Journal of Sport Behavior and consulting editor of Journal of Genetic Psychology.
Bill loved his family and dog Millie, he was an avid runner, enjoyed South Alabama baseball and saltwater fishing.
A visitation will be held at the Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum Friday, October 18,2024 at 2pm.
