Lafayette: On August 22, 2025, at 9:44 a.m., William Royce Washington was called home by the angels to be with the Lord.

Born on September 6, 1958, to Frances Washington and William Moore, William dedicated much of his life to the open road, working over 30 years as a professional truck driver. Eventually, he traded in his CDL to spend more time at home with his loving common-law wife of 40 years, Lobbie Broussard, with whom he shared one son, Devonte Washington.

William later joined Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital as a Floor Tech, where he worked for six years, forming cherished relationships and creating countless memories. Anyone who knew William knew his signature truck driver Bluetooth was never far from his ear. Though he left the 18-wheeler behind, the spirit of the road always remained with him, along with a gift for sharing stories that could last for hours.

William leaves behind his devoted common-law wife, Lobbie Broussard; his son, Devonte Washington (Courtney); two brothers, Frank Boutte and Michael Mason (Brenda); four grandsons; two goddaughters, Jessica Bruno and Markeithia Broussard; his sister-in-law, Ann Broussard; and his mother-in-law, Georgiana Broussard; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Washington; father, William Moore; daughter, Frances Washington; nephew, Wayne Boutte; and father-in-law, Vorise "Bruce" Broussard.

William's life was a journey marked by love, devotion, and a spirit as boundless as the highways he once traveled. A truck driver at heart, he carried the open road within him-always ready with a story, a laugh, or a word of wisdom gathered along life's miles. Even after he left the rig behind, the heart of the road remained in him, shaping the man everyone knew and loved. Though his final destination is now with the Lord, his love, laughter, and legacy will continue to travel on in the hearts and memories of all who were blessed to share the road of life with him.
