William Charles Willoughby, lovingly known as Bill, passed away on June 29, 2025, at the age of 59. He was born on February 7, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late William Robert Willoughby III and the late Frankie Shepherd Willoughby.
Bill was a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and worked hard in everything he did. He was known for his unshakable spirit, generous heart, and the kind of positivity that could lift a room-even on the hardest days. He devoted his life to his family, friends, and community and was the kind of man others looked up to, not because he tried to be, but because of who he was at his core. For 37 years, he shared a beautiful life with his wife and best friend, Melissa Wood Willoughby of Villa Rica. Together, they built a home rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering support. He was the proud dad of Amy (Conner) Willoughby Hancock of Marietta and Cody (Shea) Willoughby of Villa Rica, and nothing brought him more joy than being "Pop-Pop" to his granddaughters, Ellie, Addie, and the soon-to-arrive Emerson. His legacy lives on through them and in the stories, values, and memories he passed down. He also leaves behind his sister Robin Peck, brother Bob (Judy) Willoughby, nieces Katie, Kay, Becca, and Bethany, nephews Grant, Taylor, and Steven, and the big extended Willoughby family who loved him dearly and will miss him always.
Bill was the kind of man you hoped to become-steadfast, resilient, and deeply admired. He built a thriving business and wore many hats: devoted husband, dad, brother, friend, father-in-law, business partner, and Pop-Pop. He had a way of making everyone feel valued and seen, always showing up with a warm smile and the perfect story to make you laugh. He never hesitated to help, whether it was with his time, his tools, or just a listening ear. He served faithfully as a deacon at Callie Harbin Baptist Church for 24 years, quietly living out his faith through acts of service and kindness, always giving without expecting anything in return. His love for people was genuine, and his presence had a way of making things feel just a little lighter.
Visitation will be held at Jones-Wynn – Villa Rica Chapel on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday, July 8 at 1:00 PM at the same location, with burial at Melrose Hills Memorial Gardens.
Bill Willoughby will be deeply missed, but his strength, joy, and love will live on in the countless lives he touched. His story isn't over-it's just being carried forward by the people who were lucky enough to know and love him.
