William Zander Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on Feb. 2, 2026.
William Otto Zander Jr., affectionately known as "Pos" to family and Bill to friends, passed away peacefully at his home in San Antonio, Texas, on January 25, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born on August 9, 1947 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, he remained rooted in the city that shaped his life-and where he made plenty of memories.

A proud United States Navy Veteran, William served his country with honor during the Vietnam War, completing four tours aboard the USS Bolster (ARS). His service reflected the courage, grit, and determination that followed him throughout life.

Bill lived a colorful, hard-working life and he wore many hats. He was a truck driver, a bar owner in his younger days and again later on with his wife, Georgiann. Together they also ran a cleaning business, B & G Cleaning. He was also a respected pit master at Casey's BBQ and then at Tom's Ribs.

Bill was often the life of the party. He enjoyed good company, laughter, music, and spending time at his favorite bar, The Hidden Tavern where he was well known with friends old and new. He loved animals, loved fishing in Port Aransas, and could fix just about anything-usually with creativity-and a few choice words. His sweet tooth was the real way to his heart. Candy, cookies, cakes-you'd be hard pressed to find something sweet that he'd turn down. More than anything,

Bill loved his family. He was a loving father who spoiled his daughters the best way he knew how.

Bill is survived by his three daughters, Wendi L. Trammell, Brandi R. Zander, and Jennifer L. Zander; his four grandsons, Bradley W. Zander, Shane Doremus, Austin Doremus, and Brandon Zander-Gonzalez; and two great grandchildren, Jack and Hazel Mae Doremus. He is reunited in heaven with those who preceded him in death: his parents, William Otto Zander Sr, and Betty Zander, the love of his life, Georgiann L. Zander; his brother, Craig Zander; and many other loved ones he missed dearly.

Bill's memory will live on through stories, laughter, and sayings he left behind. May his memory bring a smile to our faces, and a reason to raise a glass in his honor. Pos-a fighter, a man who lived life his way, right to the very end, a lover of life, and above all else, a man that loved his family.

To honor his request, there will be no services.

Our family would like to say Thank You to Susan at Mission Park South for taking care of our family.
