William Sprague Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2025.
Bill Sprague, born in Santa Rosa, CA and raised in Santa Rosa and San Diego, CA, passed away on June 28 in San Diego. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Evelyn Sprague and siblings Patricia McKelvey (Don), Joanne Sprague (Robert Brush), Lynne Cary (John), and Richard Sprague (Diane). He was predeceased by his sister Diana Aruffo.

Born to Herbert and Eleanor Sprague in Santa Rosa, his family moved to San Diego in 1956 where Bill lived the remainder of his life. Bill graduated from Point Loma High School in 1969 and enlisted in the US Marine Corps shortly thereafter. He served in Viet Nam where he was seriously injured in a truck accident from which he recuperated in Japan. He was returned to San Diego, and upon completion of his Marine service, he held a variety of jobs, including as a delivery driver for 7-Up Bottling Company for many years. He eventually settled into his work, first as a welder then as a weld inspector, where he thrived until his retirement.

Bill loved being in the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. In his later life, when he wasn't hunting or fishing, he enjoyed playing music with his camping friends in the Laguna Mountains, even learning to play the guitar so he could more fully participate. He liked to read and discuss what he read with others. He had a lively sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

I miss you Bill, but I have many happy memories of you doing all the things you loved. Camping, fishing, hunting, skiing- family gatherings with everyone talking and laughing and singing. We all remember you with love.
