Willie Kay Brooks, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 74. Born on September 8, 1951, in Sumter, SC, Willie lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and love for his family and community.

Willie's professional journey reflected his strong work ethic and commitment. He served as a security officer at Upsala College in New Jersey, managed a warehouse in the same state, and later worked as a custodian at a public school in South Carolina. Throughout his career, Willie was known for his reliability and integrity.

Outside of work, Willie had a passion for music and sports. He was an accomplished guitarist and singer, sharing his talents with the church choir and performing with Ray, Goodman, and Brown before the group rose to fame. A member of the Baptist church in South Carolina, Willie's faith was central to his life. An avid baseball player, he played semi-professional baseball for a team in Harrisburg, PA, showcasing his athletic skills.

His interests were diverse; he enjoyed fishing and found joy in watching Western and action movies. A devoted fan of the New York Knicks and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Willie never missed a game, cheering enthusiastically for his favorite teams. His love for basketball was matched only by his love for football.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Martha Brooks, his brother Jerry Brooks, and his sister Bonnie Florvil. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Brooks; his children Corey Brooks, Monique Brooks, Alissa Buffington, Danielle Buffington, and Willie K. Brooks, III; and his cherished grandchildren DeQuaice, Isiah, Elijah, Kayla, Lexine, Terrell, Aniyah (Andy), Kyra, Zahmeer, Noah, Connor, Alina, Madison, Sebastian, and Emma. Willie also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Mattheo, and his siblings Leon, Herman, and Herbert Brooks, who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts.

Private family services are being planned to honor Willie's life and memory. The family requests that those who knew Willie reflect on their fond memories and the impact he had on their lives, and if able, donate to assist the family with funeral expenses, please see link below.

His legacy continues in the hearts of those he touched, and he will be missed profoundly.
