Willie Christine Downs, a beloved soul who graced the world with her warmth and compassion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on April 5, 1940, to the late William and Anita (Graham) Morrow, Willie lived a life filled with devotion and love for her family. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Joseph Donald Downs, Sr., her dear sister Dottie Jean Conway, daughter-in-law Patricia Downs, and grandson-in-law Richard Motley.
Willie’s legacy continues through her loving sons Ricky (Mila Rigney) Downs, David Downs, and Donnie Downs, Jr., along with her treasured grandchildren Stephanie Downs, Pamela Downs, Donnie "Buggy" Downs III, Emily Downs, David Downs, Jr., Amanda Shell, Jessica Downs and Billie Jo Grenwald. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren Quinton Whitis and Autumn Whitis, her caring siblings Wanda Walker and Shirley Morrow, as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who adored her dearly.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Willie epitomized love and care, always putting her family first. Her vitality and joy for life shone brightly through simple pleasures: whether it was indulging in bingo nights, exploring the thrill of the casino, or basking in nature's beauty at Patoka Lake, Rough River, and her beloved KY Lake. For Willie, every moment spent with family—be it a leisurely drive through the countryside, a delightful shopping trip, or a shared day of fishing—was a treasure. Her spirit left an mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation to celebrate Willie’s remarkable life will be held from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 23rd, and from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 24th. A service in her honor will take place at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 25th, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
In memory of Willie, the family kindly requests contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that resonates with her compassionate heart, or to her family.
