Willie Murphy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home - Wichita Falls on Jan. 2, 2026.
W. Vincent Murphy, Jr. 84, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on December 29, 2025. He was born on May 1st, 1941, in Sherman, Texas.

Vince spent most of his youth in Van Alstyne, Texas, and Archer City, Texas. He graduated from Archer City High School and Midwestern State University. Vincent was a founding member of the Phi Alpha Theta Chapter of the history honor society. Vince owned and operated Mac's Signature Loans until his retirement in 2005.

A lover of literature and the arts, Vincent was also a knowledgeable organic gardener. He was voted Texas Organic Gardener of the Year.

At the age of forty, Vince took up road cycling. When he focused on something, he was disciplined, so, of course, he excelled at cycling. He had found his sport. He enjoyed both road and mountain cycling. Vince was active in the cycling community supporting the MSU Cycling Team and the Hotter 'n Hell race. When he was in the senior division, Vince won the Texas State Road Race six times. A leader of the local training rides, he was affectionately called "Coach."

Vincent and his wife, Kay, fell in love with the Cardigan Welsh Corgi breed and joined the Wichita Falls Obedience Club. They showed their beloved corgis in Conformation, Rally, Obedience and Agility. Agility was Vince's favorite, and he and his dogs achieved many titles. He was especially proud to sponsor his dogs' sire, Powell, to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City twice.

Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, W. Vincent Murphy, Sr. and Frances Marie (Carter) Murphy.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kay Haney Murphy, and her daughter Alice Kay Hadley; his sister, Dottie (Murphy) Morrison and husband Lonny Morrison; his daughter, Jennifer Marie (Murphy) Morgan of Iowa Park, Texas, and her husband, David Riley Morgan; grandchildren, Nicolas Gonzales, Jessica Gonzales and Christina Morgan; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Gonzales and Benjamin Turner-Morgan; son Harold Vincent Murphy of Denton, Texas, and his wife, Donnette Gayle (Shackleford) Murphy; grandchildren, Sabrina Murphy, Regan Murphy and Eric Murphy; great-grandson, Rylan Skipworth. Also surviving are many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

All of us survivors will miss Vincent's humorous, colorful and wild stories of his life and experiences. A master storyteller.

Upon Vincent's request, there will not be a memorial service, but for those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Larry McMurtry Literary Center, 214 S. Center Street, Archer City, TX 76351 or First Step of Wichita Falls, 624 Indiana Ave. Suite 300, Wichita Falls, TX 76301.
