Wilma Dean (Martin) Burns, age 88, of Mellette Oklahoma, passed from this life on Friday, August 8, 2025 in Eufaula, OK surrounded by family.
Wilma was born on May 14, 1937 in Mellette to General Lee Martin and Ellen Mae (Brown) Martin. Wilma attended Mellette School District 6 until she began helping on the family farm doing everything from gathering corn, drawing water from the well, and chasing cattle that escaped to the river. Wilma married her longtime friend and love, Leon Burns on December 11, 1954. They were blessed with two children, Stevie and Alan. Wilma and Leon were married for 68 years.
Wilma loved spending time with family, crappie fishing, working in her flower gardens, crocheting, collecting antiques, traveling, and making her Grandchildren’s favorite desserts. She was a member of the Burns Chapel Church of God in Mellette, Oklahoma since 1947.
Wilma is survived by her son Alan Burns and wife Susie; daughter-in-law, Judy Burns; sister Carol McQuay and husband Leaon; grandchildren; Jimmy Burns and wife Paula, Tina Burns and husband Rob, Jason Burns and wife Kandrea, Amanda Burns and husband Brian, and A.J. Burns and wife Dana; great-grandchildren; Emily, Ethan, Hannah, Tristen, Daxton and wife Autumn, Kyler and wife Emalee, Gracie and Wyatt; great-great grandchildren; Zade, Zailey, Kace, Khloe, Oaklyn and Cella; and a host of family and close friends that she loved deeply. Wilma is preceded in death by her husband Leon; her son Stevie; parents General and Ellen, and brothers Albert, Harold, Thomas and Jerry; sisters Bonnie, Jodie and Ella June.
