Wilma Gaskamp Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 15, 2024.
FORT WORTH - Wilma Alice Kilmer Gaskamp passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at the golden age of 101 years.
Wilma was born on September 27, 1923, in the Troy Township of Welshfield, a rural community in northeastern Ohio, to Virgie and Elmer Kilmer. She was the second child of four; Margaret, William and Robert, respectfully. She worked hard at her studies and was Valedictorian at Troy High School, class of 1941. She graduated from Spencerian Business School in Cleveland where she learned machine shorthand. Two of her employers were H.W. Burdick Company, a wholesale jeweler, and Cleveland Pneumatic Company where she assisted the vice president over manufacturing. It was there that she met the love of her life, Cecil Gaskamp of Fort Worth. They married on the front porch of their family farm in Welshfield on May 29, 1954, moved to Fort Worth, and she officially became a Texan!
Wilma and Cecil had four children; three boys and thankfully one girl! They enjoyed family time together at Lake Jacksonville in east Texas, and traveling and visiting family around the U.S. They also owned a Hallmark card and gift shop that was close to home which Wilma managed and enjoyed making new friends there. Church was important, and the family became members of Handley Meadowbrook Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where they stayed actively involved. Wilma was an accomplished pianist and loved playing hymns for their Sunday school class. As their children grew, Wilma and Cecil became interested in genealogy. She managed to trace her roots back to the Mayflower and joined the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her passion, though, was caring for others in need, no matter who they were or how great the need. This always brought great satisfaction and joy to her heart.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her husband, Cecil; and her sons, William Paul Gaskamp and Clifford Lee Gaskamp.
She is survived by her children, Gregory Walter Gaskamp of Fort Worth and Kathleen and Larry Winter of Arlington; daughter-in-law, Mary Gaskamp of Saginaw; grandchildren, Kevin Winter (Emma), Brooke Travis (Timothy), Meghan Nelson (Gary), Clayton Gaskamp; and great-grandchildren, Henry, Benton, Lillian, and Logan. She was richly blessed by stepsons, Doug, Donny, and David Gaskamp and loved them and their families with her whole heart.
Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, in Greenwood's Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; followed by interment at Greenwood Memorial Park.
