On the morning of October 2, 2025, Delfred Gaskamp (83) passed away in a Houston Hospital. Delfred was born on December 23, 1941 in Washington County-Brenham, Texas to Delmus and Lydia Buck Gaskamp.
Delfred was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas.
Delfred grew up in Brenham with his four sisters. He was a long-time resident of Brenham. He attended Harrisburg and Brenham schools.
Delfred was not afraid of work. He was a machine operator and worked at Brenham Cotton Mill, Blue Bell Creamery, and Santa Fe Railroad Ty plant in Somerville, Texas. He retired and quickly decided retirement life was not for him. He then went to work for Pomykal Drilling Company before finally retiring.
Delfred never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He knew how to have a good time wherever he was. One of Delfred's favorite pastimes was running around with his hunting and fishing buddies. His greatest love was to tell fishing stories.
On July 22, 1969, Delfred married Carolyn Batts at Zion Lutheran Church of Brenham. To this union they were blessed with two children, Charles Alan and Desteny Dawn. Delfred and Carolyn parted ways but stayed best friends.
Later on in life, he met his dancing partner, Adeline Zingelmann. They belonged to a dance club and danced every weekend. They loved to dance.
Delfred is survived by his son and daughter- in- law, Charles and Linda (Neutzler) Gaskamp of Burton, Texas; daughter, Desteny Gaskamp of Oklahoma. Sisters; LaVerne Gaskamp, Linda Lehde, and Dorothy Grimm all of Brenham, Texas. Sisters and brother-in-law, Lydia Mae and Milton Green of Brenham, Texas. Left to cherish his memory will be numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday October 7, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 8, 2025 at Zion Lutheran starting at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Tracy Lehde, Lance Lehde, Bryan McKee, Kyle Lehde, Carson Lehde, and Dillion McKee. Honorary pallbearers include: Daniel Gaskamp, and Reggie Morris and all his nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville.
