Wilma Jean Shearin, 96, of Indianapolis, passed away on January 24, 2025. She was born on September 19, 1928, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Carl and Mattie Alma (Simmons) Durrett.
Wilma attended Emmerich Manual High School. On April 3, 1945, Wilma married the love of her life, Charles William Shearin. They were married for 79 years. The day after they were married her new husband left to serve in WWII. It would be two years before they were reunited.
Wilma was a homemaker and embraced the role of being a mother creating a home filled with love. She was skilled at sewing and crafting and took pleasure in handmaking personalized Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren. She was always happiest when she was surrounded by her family.
Wilma was a member of the former Olive Branch Christian Church and Southport Christian Church. She is survived by her husband, Charles William Shearin; children Steven (Kathie) Shearin of Greenwood, IN; Deborah (Robert) Carver of Greenwood, IN; Kelley (John) Carreon of Indianapolis, IN; brothers Rex Durrett and Donald Durrett ; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Russell Durrett and sister Sylvia Loraine Roark.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens of Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN, with the funeral service at 11:30 AM. Wilma will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children.

I was a little girl living on Pleasant Run Blvd when I would see Wilma walk past our house on her way home. She was very pretty and was dressed nicely. We never spoke -- I was intimidated by her obvious maturity. I admired her from afar. Joanne Wilcher Fox
