Wilmer "Willie" W. Kalbus, age 96, of Readfield, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, at ThedaCare Hospital in New London. He was born on April 21, 1926 in Sugar Bush, WI, the son of the late Herman and Nelda (Gore) Kalbus.
On September 16, 1959 Willie married Phyllis Schuh. She preceded him in death on June 20, 1988. Willie farmed his entire life in the Town of Caledonia and while farming, he also did construction and masonry work at several different companies in the area. He then work at Hillshire for many years before retiring. He continued farming and also enjoyed planting and harvesting a large garden every year.
Willie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield where he served as the church sexton for many years as well as serving on the church council. and the Cemetery Board. He enjoyed watching horse pulls and races and was a member of the Wisconsin Horse Pullers Association. Willie also enjoyed bowling and polkas.
Willie is survived by his son, Jeff (Rae Ann) Kalbus, New London; his daughter, Julie (Tim) Miller, Stoddard, WI; a granddaughter, Katharine (Joshua) McLuckie; a grandson, Kristopher (Makayla) Miller; two greatgrandchildren, Isaac and Lillian McLuckie; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Joanne) Schuh, Appleton; a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Curt) Sommer, New London; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents,his wife, Phyllis, a granddaughter, Kristin Miller and a brother, Harold "Happy" (Delilah) Kalbus.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church N895 County Rd. W, Readfield. Rev. Peter Kesting will officiate. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 9:00 am until the time of service.
