Carl G. Kalbus, age 86, of Readfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 25, 2024. He was born on March 4, 1938 in Appleton, WI, the son of the late Carl and Edith(Huebner) Kalbus.
Carl farmed the family farm in Readfield his entire life. He had many hobbies and interests including four-wheeling, fishing, moose hunting, reading books, farming and playing baseball and fast-pitch softball. Carl was a founding member of the Readfield Gun Club and enjoyed trap shooting. He also enjoyed traveling to Canada to hunt and fish and spend time with his Canadian buddies, Jim, Gordy, Kerri and Jody. Carl was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and especially enjoyed spending time with them. His favorite treats were strawberry shortcake and a daily bowl of ice cream and he knew where every Dairy Queen was on the route to his favorite Canadian hunting spot.
Carl is survived by three children, Brenda(Kevin)Watson, Greg (Special friend, Helen Glander) Kalbus, and Brian (Sharrey) Kalbus; his life partner, Jan Seefeldt;six grandchildren, Eric(Jenn)Ross, Michael(Kayla)Ross, Ashley (Josh) Johannes, Holly (Jack) Bushman, David (Ashley) Kalbus, Justin Clary; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Carter, Waylon and Weston; Jan's children, Nickole Seefeldt and her family and Ben(Michelle)Seefeldt and their family; his sister, Janet Strebe; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and his Fremont fishing buddies, Bob Caryl and Bill Stoeger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Arleigh Strebe.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Lewin Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Fremont. Rev. Dr. Charles Tews will officiate. Visitation will be held at Lewin Funeral Home on Thursday, from 3:00 pm until the time of service
