Wladyslaw (Walter) Data, 107 years of age, died on Saturday morning, May 4, 2024. He was born on November 23,1916 in Stara Wies, Brzozow, Poland, the youngest child of Jozef and Marianna (Pytlak) Data. Walter served in the Polish Army during WWII. In 1950, he immigrated to the USA from Germany, where he had worked as a shoemaker. He settled in Windsor, Connecticut and was employed by the American Sumatra Tobacco Company (AST) and General Cigar/Culbro Corporation. He fully retired in 1996 and moved to East Granby the following year where he resided until his death. Walter was a devout Catholic, walking to and regularly attending Mass at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Windsor. He was featured on the front page of the Hartford Courant when the parish was closed by the Archdiocese of Hartford. He then attended St. Bernard's Church in Tariffville until its closure. Walter thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors including tractors, farming, gardening, splitting wood, and yard maintenance of all types. He avidly watched action TV programs, wrestling/WWE, and the Daily Mass on EWTN. He leaves his Goddaughter, Maria Babicki, many lovely caring friends, and his faithful dog, Bialy Behr, who brought Walter immense joy every single day. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, May 13, 2024, 11:00 AM directly at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Road, Suffield. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Suffield. Donations may be made to canine rescue - Dana's Dawgs (Dana Venable), 46 Win Meadow Lane, Greenbrier AR 72058.
