Wolfgang "Michael" Kunert

Wolfgang "Michael" Kunert, 82, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, in Libertyville, IL. He was born October 19, 1941, in Berlin, Germany and was a former resident of Canada & Lake Bluff, living in Libertyville since 1997. Michael was a superb soccer player in Germany and later became a citizen in the USA and was a soccer draftee by Los Angeles. He was also a Vietnam veteran and was a wounded paratrooper, receiving a purple heart medal. Michael received his PhD in German Literature and philosophy and was a former Professor and was head soccer coach at Northwestern University.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Louise Kunert; 2 sons, Mark (the late Danielle) Kunert and Kurt (Tracy) Kunert and by 2 grandsons, Ryker & Donovan.
A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. in Libertyville, IL.
