Yolanda I. Gregorio of Springfield, VA, passed away in her own bed, just as she wished, at her home on June 6, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on April 30, 1924, in the District of Columbia, she spent her final days surrounded by the comfort of her family and friends. She was the only child of Anna D'Oria (d. 1955) and Paolo Tagliente (d. 1954) of Martina Franca, Italy.
Yolanda graduated from Notre Dame, an all-girls private Catholic High School in Washington, DC. She married Jose Gregorio on September 1946. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage.
Yolanda and Joe made their home on 1st and G near Union Station in Washington, DC before Joe personally built a brick house from the ground up on Forsythia Street. They moved into their new home in 1955 and it remained Yolanda's residence for 70 years until her passing.
Yolanda began her career working for the DC police department, as an administrator to conduct research into people's criminal records. During World War II, she was among the first women to work at the post office, paving the way for women in the workforce. She later dedicated her life to public service as a civil servant for the United States federal government.
After retiring, Yolanda gave generously of her time as a volunteer, often bringing comfort and joy to nursing home residents while her husband entertained them by playing music with his band. She was also a devoted member of the Legion of Mary at Saint Lawrence Church, where she visited the sick and supported parish activities, and later continued her service at Our Lady Queen of Peace, becoming a cherished presence in the congregation. Her selfless spirit and unwavering faith touched countless lives throughout her community.
Yolanda's passion for travel began with childhood trips to North Beach, Maryland, where she and her mother would ride DC streetcars to the shore. Later in life, she and her husband Joe went several times to Salir do Porto, Portugal, his childhood home. Their adventures also took them to Stresa and Sorrento in Italy, the majestic Swiss Alps, Niagara Falls in Canada, and many other places, each journey adding to their family's cherished memories.
Yolanda is survived by her two children, JoAnn Maria Gregorio Majesky (Gregory), of Springfield, VA; and James Gregorio of Springfield, VA. She leaves behind four grandchildren to cherish her memory, Jason Majesky (Kristen), Ruth Gregorio, Dr. Olivia M. Blackmon (Dr. William Blackmon) and Ronda Gregorio (Sean Spink), as well as 9 great-grandchildren, Gregory, Kayla, Joey, Hazel, Anna, Huit, Joseph, Abigail and Amelia, as well as her dear fur babies. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Joe Gregorio (d. February 4, 1990) and her son Robert Gregorio.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held to commemorate Yolanda's life at Church of the Nativity at 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, VA 22015, on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 12:30PM. Immediately following Mass, the burial will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Park at 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. A dinner reception will follow the burial at the Greater Springfield Volunteer Fire Dept, 7011 Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA 22150..
In lieu of flowers, any donations should be directed to James Gregorio 6704 Forsythia St., Springfield, VA 22150.

Yolanda was a woman full of life and love for her family and for the Lord. I always enjoyed having conversations with her, the most recent being within the past year, because she always had interesting things to talk about. She was a very dear woman, and even though I did not see her very often, I will miss her.
